The peaceful village of West Down is a great base from which to explore the coast, maritime towns and charm of North Devon. With a quaint community shop and a pub on your doorstep, step out for ingredients or a hearty meal without taking the car.

Explore the beautiful North Devon coast and head to Woolacombe where 3 miles of golden sands stretch along to Putsborough. The 10-minute drive will bring you the vibrant seaside village where surf schools, family-friendly eateries and attractions await. The beach is seasonally patrolled by RNLI lifeguards making it a safer spot to swim, surf and paddle. Wander the Esplanade towards Barricane where you can tuck into Sri-Lankan food during the summer and enjoy awesome sunsets.

Croyde Beach is a 15-minute drive and the bustling village has a handful of vibrant watering holes and restaurants, as does the maritime resort of Ilfracombe. From Ilfracombe you can board the MS Oldenburg and head to Lundy Island in search of seals, visit the aquarium or enjoy fish and chips by the harbour.

Tread the South West Coast Path for awe-inspiring views and admire the rugged coastline from a different vantage point. Heddon’s Mouth, Valley of The Rocks and Baggy Point are all beautifully scenic spots within a 35-minute drive from your door.

Venture 20-minutes in the car to the edge of Exmoor National Park where you can follow tracks and trails over the magical moors, hunt out wild swimming spots and spy wild ponies.
